Monumento funerario circolare con littore

Abstract

Il lavoro ripropone con bibliografia aggiornata un vecchio studio su un rilievo con scena di pompa e di attributi dell’attività magistratuale, ricavato su tre grossi blocchi curvilinei e montato sotto il portico del Palazzo Comunale di Osimo (AN). Il rilievo, databile all’età augustea, decora la superficie esterna di un ipotetico piccolo monumento funerario circolare del tipo a tamburo. In particolare i primi due blocchi appaiono montati in antico nella metà sinistra del corpo cilindrico con la scena di apertura della processione, composta in sequenza verso destra da quelli che vengono considerati un littore, un togato forse il defunto e un magistrato in toga e un librarius. La pompa, probabilmente di tipo rituale, è forse correlata nella metà destra del tamburo ad una scena di ludi o di sacrificio. Nella parte anteriore del monumento, secondo l’ipotesi proposta, è montato il terzo blocco, dove due attributi magistratuali e sacrali -tripus e capsa- sono raffigurati ai lati di una piccola mensola aggettante, destinata a sorreggere con ogni probabilità una sella curulis ed un sovrimposto epitafio. Probabile ubicazione originaria del monumento è una delle due necropoli monumentali suburbane dell’antica città di Auximum nella V regio augustea.
