Abstract

Philosophy of Language. L’articolo individua i caratteri essenziali della filosofia del linguaggio espressa da Gregorio di Nissa nei suoi scritti speculativi. Dovendo cercare una formulazione adeguata alla ontologia trinitaria, Gregorio scopre di non potersi servire della “two-terms theory” (Geach) di matrice aristotelica. Elabora quindi una forma logica dell’enunciato che appare singolarmente vicina a quella fregeana: una parte predicativa insatura viene “riempita” da termini di relazione. Questo accade in Oriente, ma non in Occidente, dove la filosofia medievale sarà sempre e solo una filosofia del termine, mentre quella bizantina è una filosofia dell’enunciato trinitario. Questa mia tesi, se accolta in via definitiva, assegnerebbe un posto ai filosofi Cappadoci tra i filosofi ante litteram analitici. Per quanto mi consta, questa prospettiva è al momento originale e si discosta da analoghi tentativi – perlopiù basati sulla applicazione dei concetti della analitica alla patristica filosofica di lingua latina.
