Sommario. La celebre riflessione di Cervantes propone di nuovo la distinzione medievale traduzione verticale’/ ‘traduzione orizzontale’ (‘tradurre le lingue classiche’/ ‘tradurre le lingue facili’) ed alimenta dei luoghi comuni per cui tra lingue dalla struttura simile più che di traduzione si dovrebbe parlare di ‘trasposizione verbale’, ‘sostituzione’, con calchi semantici e sintattici così automatici che si finirebbe per produrre una copia. Tuttavia, è doveroso segnalare i limiti di tali convinzioni: lo spagnolo e l’italiano possono sembrare a prima vista delle lingue simili, ma si tratterebbe di una ‘ingannevole somiglianza’, che indurrebbe, spesso, ad apprenderli superficialmente. Abstract. The famous Cervantes’ thought proposes again the traditional medieval distinction between vertical translation/horizontal translation (translating classic languages/translating easy languages). It contributes to common thoughts for which between languages with a similar structure it would be better to talk about “verbal transposition” and “substitution” - instead of translation -, due to the automatic use of semantic and syntax casts thus producing a “copy”. Nevertheless, the limits of this convictions should be signalled: Spanish and Italian languages at a first sight could seem similar languages, but it is a “false similarity” and this conviction for similarity could be conducing to superficial study of the languages. Resumen. La célebre reflexión de Cervantes propone de nuevo la distinción medieval 'traducción vertical/traducción horizontal' ('traducir las lenguas clásicas'/ 'verter las lenguas fáciles), y alimenta unos tópicos según los cuales entre lenguas de estructuras parecidas más que de traducción se debería hablar de transposición verbal, de substitución, con calcos semánticos y sintácticos tan automaticos que acabaría por ser casi una copia. Sin embargo, sería necesario señalar los límites de tales convicciones: español e italiano pueden parecer a simple vista idiomas parecidos, pero se trataría de una engañosa semejanza, que induciría, a menudo, a aprenderlos en modo superficial.
