Arte nell’Architettura. Oggetti iconici del Modernismo brasiliano [Art with(in) Architecture. Iconic items from Brazilian Modernism]

Abstract

L'arte e l'architettura diventano così fortemente legate in molti edifici progettati da famosi architetti brasiliani come Rino Levi, Lina Bo Bardi e Oscar Niemeyer.

The contribution deepens the relationship between the twentieth century architectural and creative modernism in Brazil and pieces of art located inside and outside the most iconic buildings, providing some theoretical and conceptual reflections on the fusion and integration of the arts in modern Brazilian architecture. The Brazilian modernist tradition explores relief and curves, even geometrization brings movement and escapes the harshness of the linear system. The same logic appears in architecture, especially in modernism expressiveness and lyricism. Arts and architecture become in this way strongly linked in many buildings designed by renowned Brazilian architects such as Rino Levi, Lina Bo Bardi, and Oscar Niemeyer. The focus is the development of modern architecture in São Paulo in connection with the local art scene, through an analysis also based on data collected directly on field by the authors.
