Relevancia de las MIPYMEs en Europa

Abstract

Europa se caracteriza por una amplia presencia de MIPYMEs, sobre todo en el sector de la manufactura. Si bien en los servicios son profusas, esta mayor presencia en el sector manufacturero también se da en las otras economías avanzadas. Esta característica estructural es al mismo tiempo una potencialidad y una limitación. Las ventajas se pueden atribuir a una mayor flexibilidad y diferenciación del producto, a una elevada innovación incremental, a la transferencia de conocimiento tácito, a una estrecha relación con el territorio - con los consiguientes aspectos sociales- y a una distribución más equilibrada de la renta. Los límites, en cambio, están grabados en la otra cara de la moneda: la dificultad para realizar innovaciones radicales; la incapacidad para codificar el conocimiento en los nuevos lenguajes, como la tecnología de la información y de la comunicación; y el riesgo de utilizar los vínculos territoriales y el consecuente patrimonio de confianza personal de manera “defensiva”, o sea, establecer coaliciones regresivas (defensivas), en lugar de progresivas.
