A number of prehistoric deposits, taken into consideration for the discussion of the Last Glacial Maximum, were excavated in recent years, and document convincingly the faunal characteristic of such time period. The data, obtained from deposits that are sufficiently informative with respect to palaeontological content, or contain rich sequences of the late Wurmian, are briefly exposed. The dominant or the most significant large mammals of different environments are pointed out.
