
Hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, which started as an experimental medicine more than four decades ago, has now become an indispensable and powerful tool to treat intractable hematologic disorders through the considerable efforts of D. Thomas and his colleagues. A short review of hematopoietic stem cell transplantation is reported with emphasis on cord blood transplantation and non-myeloablative stem cell transplantation.
