Abstract

Nella cagna gravida l'unica fonte endogena di progesterone è rappresentata dal corpo luteo la cui funzionalità dipende nei primi stadi di sviluppo da fattori paracrini e successivamente da fattori endocrini (LH e prolattina). Si evince pertanto che il controllo esogeno della fuzionalità luteale può essere effettuato solo nel periodo di ormono-dipendenza. per indurre l'estro o interrompere la gestazione i derivati della segale cornuta (cabergolina, metergolina, bromocriptina), da soli o in associazione alle prostaglandine di sintesi, rappresentano ormai da tempo gli antiprolattinici più comunemente utilizzati. Attualmente la cabergolina trova il suo impiego anche nella terapia farmacologica della piometra, condizione patologica di frequente riscontro e tipica della fase diestrale, ma per validare la sua efficacia clinica e la fertilità ai calori successivi occorrono ulteriori studi effettuati in un maggior numero di soggetti.
