Abstract

Durkheim e la sociologia positivista hanno analizzato il suicidio come fenomeno sociale, da un lato ridefinendolo in termini di variazioni del tasso di suicidio, e dall’altro individuandone l’eziologia in un deficit dei processi di integrazione e regolazione. Il suo basarsi sulle statistiche ufficiali è stato criticato per l’inaffidabilità di tali dati e per l’adozione di una prospettiva di senso comune. Gli approcci costruzionisti hanno ridefinito interamente il focus della ricerca sul suicidio, incentrandolo sulla ricostruzione del significato che l’individuo assegna al suo atto e sugli argomenti che quest’ultimo usa per far comprendere agli altri tale atto. Altre prospettive hanno indagato il lavoro dei coroner nelle indagini per stabilire il tipo di decesso. Il suicidio resta comunque un fenomeno complesso, in quanto è il risultato di una definizione sociale, cui si aggiunge il caso limite del suicidio assistito e la discussione sulla sua liceità.
