Abstract

Nel suo famoso Dialogo sopra i due massimi sistemi Galileo Galilei così descrive lo stato di equilibrio: “Per questo veggo nella bilancia due pesi eguali restar fermi nell’equilibrio, resistendo la gravità dell’uno all’esser alzato alla gravità con la quale l’altro, premendo in giù, alzar lo vorrebbe.” Secondo la definizione del dizionario Treccani la parola equilibrio, che deriva dal latino aequilibrium, componendosi di aequus «uguale» e libra «bilancia», rappresenta uno “stato di quiete di un corpo” e, nell’uso figurato, la “proporzione fra le parti, l’esatta distribuzione dei varî componenti di un insieme.” Ma possiamo in qualche modo affermare che l’architettura è, secondo molteplici accezioni, arte dell’equilibrio? Se il termine può facilmente rimandare a immagini relative alla statica dell’edificio, il testo si occuperà di declinarlo in chiave simbolica, quale strumento necessario nel processo di costruzione del progetto. Equilibrio rimanda infatti anche ai termini proporzione e armonia, e, nelle sue antagoniste condizioni dello statico e del dinamico, configura variegate condizioni per il progetto in un’epoca caratterizzata da continui mutamenti ed evoluzioni che scardinano regole, propongono revisioni che stimolano alla ricerca sul senso profondo della disciplina.
