From the geodynamics of peri-Gondwanan terranes to the Permian Meso-Europe. a perspective from the Variscan segment of Sardinia

Abstract

During the last years a good deal of works were carried out in the Sardinia Variscides focusing on metamorphic and igneous petrology, structural geology and stratigraphy, the latter mostly in the late orogenic basins. The results along with the increasing availability of geochronological data allows, not only bridging the gap of knowledge between the Sardinian Variscides and other sectors of the Variscan Chain, but offer also the chance to introduce new hypotheses on the evolution of this orogenic cycle. Yet, still intriguing issues need to be deepened concerning both the pre collisional Palaeozoic geodynamic and the collisional to post-collisional evolution. © Società Geologica Italiana, Roma 2013.
