Abstract

La nomenclatura che si applica tradizionalmente al fenomeno del divenire dei rapporti tra Oriente e Occidente lungo le rotte mediterranee interviene a condizionare in modo pesante, direi paralizzante, i tentativi e le proposte di analisi storica; termini quali precolonizzazione, protocolonizzazione, colonizzazione implicano cesure e sbarramenti, in senso sia temporale che culturale, che impediscono di cogliere quelli che sembrano i termini fondamentali del problema: da un lato il progressivo muoversi di esploratori, mercanti e coloni di varia provenienza egea e vicino-orientale lungo rotte di secolare sperimentazione e tradizione che uniscono Oriente e Occidente; dall'altro il processo graduale di saldatura e interrelazione che integra questo itinerario con le complesse e organizzate reti di traffico che uniscono le popolazioni mediterranee e atlantiche almeno a partire dalle fasi mature e finali dell'Età del bronzo.
