Abstract

Nel Nord-Africa, undici importanti insediamenti trovano ospitalità e protezione nei golfi, all’interno delle insenature e al riparo dei promontori. L’isola Rachgoun è nota nel mondo degli studi fenici e punici perché Gustave Vuillemot nel 1953 ha effettuato alcune ricerche sull’isola, scoprendo un piccolo ma importante insediamento fenicio. Nel 1952 fu effettuata una prospezione archeologica di superficie, che permise di individuare nella parte meridionale dell’isola le vestigia di un abitato della notevole estensione di circa tre ettari e nella parte settentrionale una necropoli contenente 120 tombe, per lo più a incinerazione. Le indagini effettuate nell’isola di Rachgoun sono state edite una prima volta in modo parziale, con riferimento soprattutto alla necropoli, nel 1955 e, successivamente, nel 1965, in modo più esaustivo. I reperti sono tutti databili tra la metà dell’viii e la seconda metà del vi secolo
