Educare alla cittadinanza digitale: una sfida possibile

Abstract

This essay explores the complex issue of digital citizenship from a pedagogical point of view in light of recent national and international research. The problematization of digital citizenship poses some important questions. Can the idea of citizenship that conjures up terms like participation, socialisation and the sharing of important semantic meanings including the idea of “common good” be linked to digitalization which essentially brings online processes to mind? Can digital citizenship be seen as participation or as an illusion of participation, a means of escape for those who are unable to find ways of expressing themselves and playing an active part in the physical world? Reflections on digital citizenship as an educational concept involve examining the educational processes that determine the true meaning of this term so that we can go beyond its technical aspects.
