Abstract

In Politica 4, 13 Lipsio menziona Machiavelli definendolo Maculonus Italus. Il nome Maculonus, che fa allusione alla paretimologia che voleva il cognome Machiavelli derivare da macula, è attestato nella stragrande maggioranza dei codici di Giovenale 7, 40 ed era il testo da Lipsio ritenuto valido.
