The concept of learning society is to be considered as a boundary object that can be translated in different ways, depending on the social communities that decide (or do not decide) to appropriate it. The aim of this chapter is to show how the term has been translated into the Italian debate on topics such as social change, welfare, citizenship, education, employment - to quote only the most important ones.
