Abstract

Il più caratteristico dolore acuto è considerato essere il dolore postoperatorio (DPO), anche se, qualora non adeguatamente trattato, questo può assumere le caratteristiche di un vero e proprio dolore cronico, è generalmente prevedibile e si caratterizza per la forte intensità e breve durata. L’atto chirurgico dà origine ad una sequenza di eventi fisiopatologici diversi in rapporto alla sede, tipo ed entità del danno tissutale, sostenuti da alterazioni periferiche e centrali che comportano una alterazione e disregolazione della normale selettività o specializzazione del sistema somatosensoriale . I meccanismi di queste perturbazioni sono multipli e complicati ma il dolore ha sicuramente una grande importanza su questi in funzione delle risposte riflesse periferiche, segmentarie, sovrasegmentarie e corticali da cui derivano quelle alterazioni endocrinometaboliche, respiratorie, cardiocircolatorie e psicologiche che di norma investono in maniera più o meno rilevante l’omeostasi del paziente operato.
