Imparare dal terremoto

Abstract

Dinanzi alla portata di eventi catastrofici come il terremoto che nel 2012 ha colpito l’Emilia, risultano evidenti le difficoltà che l’uomo incontra nel prepararsi a convivere e reagire all’imprevedibilità degli accadimenti ambientali. Il sapere tecnologico non è in grado di controllare la natura e di compensare l’aumentata fragilità che l’uomo ha indotto sul territorio; al contempo, le conoscenze scientifiche attuali non dispongono di strumenti sufficientemente sofisticati per prevedere il verificarsi di fenomeni naturali. Come allora è possibile aiutare le popolazioni che vivono in sistemi vulnerabili a resistere e reagire a questi eventi imprevisti? L’esperienza del terremoto dell’Emilia vissuta al fianco delle popolazioni maggiormente colpite da questa calamità ha portato chi scrive, quale responsabile del Museo di Ateneo dedicato alle scienze della terra (Museo Gemma 1786), a riflettere sul rapporto uomo-natura e sui differenti livelli di percezione e di consapevolezza che il pubblico manifesta nei confronti dei fenomeni naturali. Le attività condotte hanno evidenziato la necessità di promuovere la diffusione di strategie metodologiche utili a fornire alle comunità gli strumenti necessari per affrontare il modificarsi della realtà circostante in una prospettiva di sostenibilità a lungo termine.
