Abstract

La città, sia essa densa o diffusa, sembra essere governata soprattutto da rigide regole dettate dall'applicazione di proposte mirate, desunte da settori disciplinari ad alto grado di specializzazione. Regole che, forse per inerzia intellettuale, risultano in qualche modo rassicuranti, e conseguentemente propongono ipotesi di sviluppo adattabili solo con fatica a specificità ed eccezioni. Tutto ciò a discapito di ambiti disciplinari considerati ancillari anche se potenziali generatori di idee inedite e progressive. La ricerca tende infatti a privilegiare il pragmatismo, a discapito delle discipline a statuto scientifico debole. Uno dei settori di maggior sofferenza sembra essere oggi proprio quello del progetto architettonico, emarginato dai dibattiti internazionali sullo sviluppo dei territori contemporanei. Si preferisce ragionare su questioni di natura quantitativa come se, per risolvere le tragedie che ci affliggono (eccessivo sfruttamento delle risorse naturali, maremoti, terremoti, alluvioni, ecc.), bastasse lavorare su asettici dati statistici o soluzioni pronte all'uso, ingabbiando così la vita sociale delle comunità umane, e quella naturale della terra, in enormi “contenitori indifferenti”. Occorre probabilmente domandarsi se esistano e quali possano essere le analogie tra la nostra contemporaneità e un periodo storico in cui la “liberazione dell’immaginazione” ritrovava nell'”indifferenza del contenitore” un valido strumento per ricercare un nuovo lessico architettonico adatto a una società e a un territorio in costante evoluzione.
