Cittadinanza e disuguaglianze economiche : le origini storiche di un problema europeo (XIII-XVI secolo)

Abstract

Tra quello che si intendeva nel medioevo con la parola cittadino e quello che oggi si intende con la stessa parola c’è in apparenza una grandissima differenza. Il civis medievale esisteva in assenza di un concetto generale ed astratto di cittadinanza, mentre l’odierno cittadino della città europea o nord-americana concretizza con la sua stessa presenza una nozione immateriale di cittadinanza che, a sua volta, si suppone connessa ad un sistema di diritti civili. Mentre la cittadinanza medievale non esiste come realtà sovra individuale, la cittadinanza rimodellata dall’epoca della rivoluzione francese e della rivoluzione industriale all’epoca del trionfo delle democrazie parlamentari nell’ambito degli stati nazionali rinvia ad un sistema di diritti di cui il cittadino gode in quanto soggetto in possesso di una cittadinanza.
