Abstract

La dimostrazione delle spirochete nel materiale istologico è un quesito che viene posto frequentemente al laboratorio di istopatologia. Le metodiche finora usate sfruttano la capacità delle spirochete di legare isali di argento o di metalli pesanti e presentano diverse problematiche sia di carattere tecnico che interpretativo. Con la scoperta dell'eziologia spirochetosica di alcune patologie ( tra cui la malattia di Lyne) vi è stato un rinnovato interesse per le metodiche istochimiche per la dimostrazione delle spirochete. Il problema è particolarmente attuale nella regione Friuli Venezia-Giulia sul cui territorio sono presenti in maniera endemica zecche infettate dalla Borrelia. Verranno illustrate e confrontate due metodiche di colorazione: Warthin-Starry e Steiner.
