Abstract

L’atrofia che ha colpito la civiltà araba e musulmana si è verificata spesso nella storia umana e colpiva puntualmente quando un utopismo (materialista, religioso o razzista) s’impadroniva dello spazio e del tempo, della ratio e dell’immaginario collettivo di una civiltà. L’utopia è regina finché si rifugia nei libri o si isola dalla società; ma quando l’utopismo si azzarda sulla scacchiera della storia, il vero problema diventa il potere. Vi è una forma di nazionalismo pan-arabo che percepisce l’unità per giustapposizione e assimilazione. Vi è una forma d’islamismo che percepisce l’unità per sottomissione. La legittimità di una entità politica dipenderà, sempre di più, della sua capacità di coniugare l’unità nella diversità.
