Il confine italo sloveno come confine relitto

Abstract

Il saggio prende le mosse dall’adesione all’Unione Europea nel 2004 da parte della Slovenia, erede della Jugoslavia come Stato confinario dell’Italia a oriente. Con questo passaggio, che dopo aver interessato le sole merci prelude l’abbattimento delle divisioni confinarie anche per le persone, nell’immaginario collettivo viene meno anche nella sua parte conclusiva e meridionale la cortina di ferro che era scesa da Stettino a Trieste dopo la conclusione della seconda guerra mondiale. Ad essere superata è una divisione recente, durata circa sessant’anni, che aveva introdotto una soluzione di continuità in un territorio che per secoli era stato gestito da un’unica amministrazione pubblica, quella asburgica. Una lunga storia che non avrebbe dovuto subire ampie ripercussioni in un periodo di divisione così breve, ma che la realtà dei fatti smentisce. Ripercorrendo le fasi delle vicende che nel Novecento hanno interessato il confine orientale italiano nei suoi quattro tratti (Val Canale, Valli del Torre e del Natisone, Goriziano e spazio triestino) si evidenzia come i diversi momenti abbiano creato le condizioni per cui l’abbattimento definitivo della frontiera fisica non sia sufficiente a superare quella culturale.
