Abstract

Il capitolo descrive in maniera approfondita la relazione tra crescita economica e ambiente. Il tema centrale è il concetto di sostenibilità della crescita economica ampiamente dibattuto in letteratura. I sostenitori di una visione ottimistica del rapporto tra attività economica e ambiente concordano ad esempio nel ritenere che una opportuna regolamentazione delle attività e degli impieghi delle risorse possano in fondo condurre ad una condizione di crescita sostenibile, ovvero ad uno stato del sistema economico in cui l’aumento della produzione avvenga compatibilmente con la conservazione della qualità dell’ambiente e dello stock delle risorse naturali. Sono così descritti i tre pilastri dello sviluppo sostenibile, quello economico, ambientale e sociale. Sono descritte le tappe principali del percorso istituzionale del principio dello sviluppo sostenibile a livello internazionale e si conclude con un breve excursus delle iniziative di maggior rilievo condotte a livello europeo fino al progetto più recente del New Green Deal.le sue competenze e le sue risorse finanziarie per mobilitare i paesi vicini e i partner a percorrere insieme un percorso sostenibile.
