53 slides.-- Keynote speech delivered on Day II of the CRIS2022 conference. The presentation provides an overview on the areas of research integrity and research ethics. It is argued that research and publication ethics are a spectrum. As a result, if journal editors are well placed to detect scientific misconduct, they are also well placed to prevent misconduct and to promote responsible conduct of research. A number of challenges are examined where the ethical role of journal editors comes to the fore in terms of ensuring the integrity of the scientific record.
