Sulla poesia moderna

Abstract

Fra la seconda metà del Settecento e la prima metà del Novecento la poesia occidentale si trasforma. Al termine di un processo che in poco tempo distrugge convenzioni millenarie, i poeti acquistano una libertà senza precedenti: possono scrivere in modo oscuro, infrangere le regole del metro e della sintassi, rinnovare il lessico, eliminare ogni mediazione fra la propria persona biografica e il personaggio che nei testi dice "io". La poesia diventa così il genere più egocentrico della letteratura moderna, un'arte che, nella sua forma tipica, rievoca frammenti autobiografici in uno stile soggettivo. Alternando la riflessione teorica e l'analisi di alcuni testi esemplari, fra cui "L'infinito" di Leopardi, l'autore ricostruisce le tappe di questa metamorfosi e le interpreta come il sintomo di mutazioni storiche profonde. E' così possibile ridiscutere alcuni problemi fondamentali della cultura moderna: la crisi della tradizione, la nascita dell'individualismo moderno, lo statuto dell'identità fra differenza e omologazione
