Abstract

Il presente contributo sperimenta l’utilizzo della scienza del cittadino (citizen science) per il monitoraggio dei rifiuti spiaggiati nell’arcipelago toscano attraverso il coinvolgimento diretto dei cittadini, in modo particolare avvalendosi dell’aiuto degli abitanti dell’isola del Giglio e degli ospiti del penitenziario dell’isola di Pianosa, sia nella fase di rilevazione sia in quella di elaborazione e rappresentazione dei dati. L’obiettivo primario è quello di a) coinvolgere i volontari nella fase di rilevazione e analisi dei dati b) monitorare i rifiuti spiaggiati delle isole dell’Arcipelago Toscano: Isola d’Elba, Isola del Giglio e Isola di Pianosa. Tale sperimentazione è stata realizzata tramite l’utilizzo dell’applicazione libera “PhotoMap” attraverso la quale sono stati fotografati e registrate le coordinate GPS di tutti i rifiuti presenti. I risultati sono stati sintetizzati in una carta interattiva liberamente fruibile e aggiornabile.

This paper describes a novel method for collecting geo-referenced data in the context of environmental issues. We propose a citizen science approach for monitoring beach litter in the Tuscan archipelago, with the engagement of non-professional actors. The contribution illustrates the process of data collection from the detection phase to the cartographic representation of results.
