Hattat Şefik Bey ve Eserleri

Abstract

Şefik Bey has lived in the 19th century and is considered to be one of the best calligraphers of his time. However, there hasn’t been a previous study about Şefik Bey and his work of art. This study gathers all his art work in one place. Undoubtedly, biography studies have an important place in the field of art culture research. The main focus of this study is the calligrapher Şefik Bey, his life and his art. His art work has been put in a chronological order in the catalog chapter. Therefore, the improvement of his writing can be easily observed. Additionally, this paper provides the documents from the ottoman archive regarding his work -on buildings and architectural structures applied-writings- in Muzika-i Hümâyun where Şefik Bey had worked as a teacher.
