Abstract

This work presents an optimization model focused on the minimization of energy generation costs for an isolated rural microgrid located in the township of Nazareth in the municipality of Uribía (La Guajira), currently consisting of a 364KW diesel generator, a 320KWh solar panel system and an energy storage system consisting of a bank of 480 3350Ah 2V lead-acid batteries for a nominal power of 268KWh with a nominal voltage of 12V. Three modeling scenarios are proposed, the first calculates the costs with the current scenario by means of the GAMS software and is compared with the monitoring reports of the Institute for Planning of Non-Interconnected Zones (IPSE), for the second scenario an analysis of costs with different combinations of medium power generation to supply the peak hour load and the scenario with the best performance is incorporated as a second scenario for the respective analysis, in the third scenario scenario 2 is used with a duplication of the demand and the demand is analyzed, analyzing the generation costs comparing them with the costs of the first scenario. This optimization model incorporates the load profile of the township of Nazareth in the municipality of Uribía (La Guajira) and an on, coupling and off logic for each generator, where the model calculates the minimum cost of operating the microgrid in each scenario and that generators would be in use, which ones would not, and the power supplied to the microgrid by each generator, in the three scenarios are evaluated in a 24-hour observation horizon
