Abstract

 La diversidad biológica de la provincia de Mendoza sólo puede ponderarse si se conocen las especies que la componen. En este sentido, las colecciones botánicas como las del Herbario MERL tienen incalculable valor al servir de apoyo o sostén al desarrollo de programas orientados al estudio de la flora y vegetación, contribuyendo al conocimiento de las especies, su identificación, clasificación y conservación. En la actualidad representa una de las mejores colecciones de los especímenes de plantas del oeste de Argentina.
