El paisaje desde la ecología de paisajes

Abstract

El significado del vocablo paisaje es evasivo por la subjetividad que lo envuelve. La definición y caracterización del paisaje dependen en gran medida de la historia y formación de cada individuo, desde aquel que lo percibe como el entorno en el cual habita hasta el complejo significado otorgado por los geógrafos rusos del siglo XVIII. Sin embargo, nadie puede negar que el paisaje, cualquiera sea la definición o descripción, es el contexto en el cual transcurre la vida de nuestras sociedades y que es el resultado de fuerzas naturales, de fuerzas sociales y de las interacciones entre ambas. La codicia de la sociedad humana ha generado situaciones de conflicto entre las fuerzas naturales y sociales a lo largo de la historia, redundando en el deterioro o pérdida de valores naturales que son beneficiosos y a veces indispensables para la vida biológica humana. Es importante tratar de conciliar estas dos fuerzas modeladoras del paisaje y para ello, en primer lugar, debemos definirlo de manera tal que en su contexto confluyan todas las concepciones que de él se tienen. La percepción del paisaje y su definición no es sólo un problema semántico, sino que implica comportamientos definidos frente al uso, planificación y gestión de los espacios.
