Abstract

The present work reflects on the hegemonic masculinity, from the ways in which heterosexual cisgender men of different positions experience and signify romantic love, sexuality and couple relationships. To that goal, we retrieved ten in-depth interviews of Argentine men living in the province of Córdoba, within the framework of a postdoctoral research carried out during years 2015-2017. We analyze that, in the framework of Late Capitalism and the Heteropatriarcal order, romantic love is a central myth in sex-affective relationships, which strengthens representations about "the deserving woman" of this ideal type of love. These gender fictions are expectations that become expectations and mandates towards the women with whom these men are linked, contributing to the emergence of practices and violent discourses, when in the encounter with "real women", these are not fulfilled.
