La búsqueda de nuevos metabolitos bioactivos a partir de organismos marinos es una estrategia promisoria para encontrar estructuras químicas novedosas muy distintas a las halladas en productos naturales terrestres. El estudio de metabolitos secundarios aislados de organismos marinos del phylum Echinodermata nos permitió caracterizar una serie de compuestos con actividad antifúngica y antiviral e identificar líderes para desarrollar nuevos análogos sintéticos.
