Abstract

This paper discusses experimental forms of visual representation that challenge the representation of migrants provided by the apparatuses of the state. The images of contemporary diaspora of the Argentine photographer Seba Kurtis depict several third world migrations to the Northern Hemisphere using flawed or broken devices among other heterodox techniques that undermine both the concepts both of register and representation. How does photography become a means of resistance rather than a means of state control and documentation? Intervened photographies may help preserving the veiled memory of a diaspora marked by a growing illegalisation of the migrant condition.
