Abstract

Dental wear analysis in bio-archaeological remains provides valuable information on topics such as: dietary habits, food processing techniques, subsistence patterns, and non-dietary usage of the teeth. In this study a descriptive dental wear analysis is conducted on human remains from Pavenhan archaeological site, located in Santa Fe Province. Scopic examination was carried out on the remains of at least 11 individuals, all with adult dentition. Crowns` wear degree and dental wear pattern were determined for all teeth; angular wear and cupping were analyzed only at premolars and molars. The evaluation of the results and its comparison with prior models made possible to hypothesize that Pavenhan’s individuals had a preferential consumption of processed ground food and the use of their dentition for instrumental purposes.
