Plantas Nativas Argentinas: Fuentes de nuevos Antivirales

Abstract

En los últimos años se ha observado un gran incremento tanto, en la aparición de enfermedades infecciosas, como la re aparición de otras que ya se consideraban controladas. El diseño y aplicación masiva de algunas vacunas ha permitido poner freno por ejemplo a los virus polio y viruela, causales de grandes epidemias. Sin embargo, la inmunización no siempre es posible. A pesar de la gran oferta de fármacos disponibles en la actualidad, existen aún enfermedades virales que no cuentan con un tratamiento farmacológico efectivo, o bien su terapéutica provoca efectos indeseables. Además, es conocido que la aplicación masiva de una droga antiviral puede llevar a la resistencia del microorganismo al fármaco. Todo esto conlleva a la búsqueda de quimioterapias combinadas, así como a una acelerada y más diversificada investigación de nuevas drogas que eliminen o atenúen la enfermedad evitando el surgimiento de resistencias.
