Tensión entre cultura letrada y cultura popular en Cañas y trapiches de Alberto García Hamilton

Abstract

El presente trabajo se desprende de una investigación más amplia en la cual abordamos, entre otras problemáticas, los vínculos de Alberto García Hamilton y su proyecto creador: un periódico de tendencia alternativa con fuerte incidencia en la opinión pública de la región noroeste de la Argentina de principios del siglo XX. Entre las labores culturales emprendidas por dicho autor se destaca su acotada producción teatral. Nos aproximarnos a su obra Cañas y Trapiches (1909) desde una perspectiva interdisciplinaria que busca reconocer vínculos existentes entre campo periodístico, campo cultural y campo político argentinos, articulados conflictivamente por el campo del poder, según la propuesta teórica de Pierre Bourdieu.Para ello, nos detendremos específicamente en los rasgos de la cultura letrada y de la cultura popular presentes en dicha obra y trataremos de distinguir los elementos simbólicos cuya representación revele la tensión entre ambos. Proponemos, de este modo, una lectura de la historia del campo cultural del noroeste argentino, y en particular tucumano, focalizando al autor y a uno de sus proyectos teatrales desde su dimensión fronteriza entre periodismo, literatura, política y teatro.
