La tragedia “Ortiz”

Abstract

Pasaron 75 años del fallecimiento del presidente Roberto M. Ortiz acaecido en julio de 1942. Durante dos días, miles de argentinos rindieron honores al Presidente que había renunciado tan solo un mes antes, pero que ya se encontraba mortalmente enfermo y en uso de licencia. La Nación, entre otros matutinos de envergadura y alcance nacional, rescataba en aquella oportunidad no sólo el “don de multitud” del fallecido, sino su aptitud de “viejo demócrata”. El senador Alfredo Palacios, en la Asamblea Legislativa, lo despedía como a uno de los “paladines del civismo” en esa hora crítica del mundo. Pues Ortiz, durante su corto mandato (1938-1940), había dado señales claras de un programa institucional orientado al restablecimiento de la libertad electoral, en el marco de una década en la que el fraude imperó como norma...
