Utilizando un panel de datos de 220 escuelas primarias con información georreferenciada, este trabajo explora los determinantes de la tasa de repetición a nivel escuela, contexto y vecindario geográfico. Los resultados muestran que a nivel escuela únicamente la matrícula escolar es una variable significativa. Los factores contextuales como la tasa de desempleo y la proporción de mujeres en edad escolar se relacionan con la tasa de repetición primaria. Además, el desempleo y la proporción de mujeres de las áreas contiguas muestran efectos significativos. Estos resultados reflejan la importancia de incorporar la localización de las escuelas y su entorno social a la hora de establecer adecuadas políticas educativas que contemplen a la repetición escolar.
Using a panel data of 220 primary schools with georeferenced information, this research explores the determinants of repetition rate al school, contextual and geographical neighborhood levels. Results show that the marticulation is a significant variable at school level. Contextual factors such as unemployment rate and percentage of female youth of primary school age are related to the grade repetition rate in primary school. In addition, the unemployment and the women's porportion of the contaguous areas shows significant effects. These results reflect the importance to consider the school localization and its social context if we want to establish suitable educational policies that address the grade repetition.
