Observacion por microscopia de luz polarizada de fases ortogonales tipo de vries en dimeros cristalino líquidos arqueados

Abstract

Cuando un compuesto funde para formar una mesofase el fenómeno se denomina termotropismo. En estas mesofases, designadas como cristalino líquidas, se pierde parcialmente el orden del estado cristalino y las moléculas individuales poseen movilidad. Los dímeros cristalino líquidos, DCL, poseen dos unidades mesogénicas semirígidas unidas por un espaciador flexible que normalmente es una cadena alquílica. Las propiedades transicionales de los DCL que presentan fases laminares son atribuídas a la dependencia de la forma molecular del dímero respecto al número de átomos del espaciador, considerando que adopta una conformación completamente trans. Un DCL con miembros pares tiene una forma en zigzag mientras que un DCL con miembros impares tiene una forma arqueada.
