Riesgos laborales en Medicina Veterinaria

Abstract

Los veterinarios tienen hasta nueve veces más riesgo de sufrir lesiones severas en accidentes ocupacionales que otros profesionales de la salud (Norwood et al., 2000). Sus pacientes varían en especie, tamaño, peso, masa corporal, comportamiento, anatomía, fisiología y otras características que influyen en el momento de un examen médico. Mientras que en medicina humana los pacientes tienden a colaborar con su médico, en veterinaria pueden ser agresivos y resistirse al manejo, infligiendo lesiones a quien lo examina. Por otra parte, la exposición a animales portadores y transmisores de zoonosis es un peligro siempre latente para el veterinario (Abdala et al., 2012, Tarabla et al., 1993, 2009a, Traversa et al., 2001, Vanasco et al., 2008), quien muchas veces ejerce la práctica clínica en condiciones que no están bajo su control. El objetivo de esta comunicación es resumir los resultados que hemos obtenido en investigaciones realizadas o en curso sobre la frecuencia de accidentes ocupacionales, zoonosis, enfermedades ergonómicas y sus factores de riesgo, la percepción de los riesgos y la frecuencia de uso de buenas prácticas profesionales.
