Abstract

El concepto de remodelamiento ventricular izquierdo fue introducido por Janice Pfeffer y col. en 1985 como resultado de las observaciones sobre los cambios en la estructura ventricular que se producían en el corazón de rata como consecuencia de la ligadura de una arteria coronaria. Estos hallazgos tuvieron posteriormente una extensa aplicación clínica. A partir de 1990 se identifica como remodelamiento post-infarto, en concordancia con lo señalado en los experimentos iniciales, a los cambios no sólo en la estructura sino también en la función ventricular que ocurren en forma aguda y/o crónica después de un infarto agudo de miocardio (IAM), transformándose su identificación en un punto trascendental en el enfoque clínico de pacientes con esa patología

In this manuscript, authors discuss about the concept of left ventricular remodeling as well as cardiac physiopathology concerning celular changes relative to ventricular overload, ethiology and the role of Echocardiography in such issues.
