Lejanos, extraños, visitantes: Los animales de Antonio Di Benedetto

Abstract

Este trabajo propone una lectura del primer libro de Antonio Di Benedetto, Mundo animal (1953). Los relatos de este volumen dramatizan una relación problemática entre lo animal y lo humano. Esta relación se encuentra mediada por una corporalidad indiferenciada: el cuerpo constituye el campo de fuerzas en el que los límites entre lo humano y lo animal se vuelven permeables. Nuestra hipótesis sugiere que Mundo animal pone en tensión los protocolos narrativos de la fábula, desmontando los mecanismos de significación metafórica que transfieren rasgos antropomorfos a los animales. De este modo, el símbolo (fabulístico, parabólico o alegórico) se disuelve en la metamorfosis, el devenir-animal del hombre. Cada cuento pone en relación una corporalidad sufriente o invadida (enfermedad, dolor físico o psíquico, violencia individual o colectiva) con una visitación de la otredad que toma la forma de lo animal. Esta corporalidad invadida por la exterioridad constituiría un espacio que se pretende propio, determinante del sujeto humano, ya sea como interioridad o conciencia, como dueño o propietario, como habitante o perteneciente a una nación: el cuerpo, como unidad orgánica, figura al sujeto soberano, su casa y su comunidad, cada vez amenazada por la emergencia de lo desconocido, lo inhumano o lo monstruoso que, para poder hacerse presente, adopta rasgos aprehensibles de lo viviente no humano.
