Abstract

El objetivo de la presente investigación fue definir criterios teórico-metodológicos para el desarrollo de atractivos de visitantes a partir de geositios de interés paleontológico en Norpatagonia. El trabajo consistió en una combinación de abordajes, el descriptivo estadístico mediante un análisis factorial exploratorio y el estudio de casos, que le aportaron al tema un enfoque geográfico explicativo sincrónico y diacrónico, respectivamente. El método Componentes Principales del análisis factorial identificó cuatro factores que describen y explican el comportamiento general de 115 geositios incluidos en la oferta del producto paleoturismo, en las provincias de Río Negro y del Neuquén (Argentina). La información obtenida a partir de un muestreo de investigadores pertenecientes a la comunidad científica geo-paleontológica nacional y contrastada con datos parciales obtenidos del análisis estadístico previo, arrojó como principal resultado que no resulta aplicable la utilización de la variable “importancia científica” para ponderar y seleccionar atractivos basados en un recurso paleontológico. Finalmente, los cinco casos de estudio con geositios ubicados en diferentes áreas paleontológicas permitieron establecer un proceso de patrimonialización común en el territorio de Norpatagonia y profundizar los diferentes procesos de activación turística, que en el ámbito local, condicionaron la creación de geositios con variadas configuraciones y estilos de desarrollo.
