Music and youth have become a recurrent subject in contemporary sociology and anthropology. Every analysis about that topic seems to be stuck in an unproductive way, by interrogating music about its responsibilities in the interlacement between hegemony and counter-hegemony. That discussion is unproductive if we avoid incorporating some findings of the contemporary theory, which is the focus of this paper. As an introductory discussion, and pointing to remove obstacles, we want to reflect on some of the conjetures that cause automations in the analysis, by reviewing research progress and theoretical discussions that propose ways to improve music and youth studies.
