Abstract

Se efectuó el análisis polínico de una secuencia sedimentaria del Holoceno tardío ubicada a 3.000 m s.n.m. en la localidad denominada Abra del Infiernillo (65º 45W-26º 45´S) en los valles Calchaquíes, provincia de Tucumán, Argentina. El espectro polínico registrado evidenció el predominio de vegetación herbácea xerofítica compuesta principalmente por Poaceae, Chenopodiaceae-Amaranthaceae y Asteraceae con el desarrollo de períodos húmedos a secos. Se reconocieron tras zonas polínicas. Zona III: Se subdivide en: subzona IIIb (2000 ± 50 años BP): estepa herbácea con especies arbustivas bajas y vegetación característica de ambientes húmedos o inundados de lento escurrimiento. Subzona IIIa: estepa herbácea con vegetación propia de ambientes secos. Zona II (1760 ± 40 años BP ? 875 ± 20 años BP): estepa herbácea con vegetación arbustiva y el retorno de condiciones locales de humedad. Zona I (875 ± 20 años BP): estepa herbácea característica de ambientes secos. El aporte polínico arbóreo registrado dese 2000 ± 50 años BP hasta 875 ± 20 años BP provendría de zonas más bajas debido al efecto de los vientos del este, predominantes en la zona de estudio.
