El Pez Cebra: una herramienta en educación

Abstract

El pez cebra (Danio rerio) es un vertebrado de la familia de los ciprínidos, es natural de la India, Bangladesh, Nepal y el norte de Myanmar. Sus características biológicas han promovido que se use como modelo animal en ciencias biomédicas desde los años ´90. El pez cebra está actualmente en expansión como herramienta en educación y cuenta con una revista científca especializada: “Zebrafsh” que se publica desde el año 2004. La incorporación y difusión del pez cebra en educación probablemente tendrá un efecto benefcioso debido a las ventajas de este modelo animal. En este trabajo se presentan algunos hitos con el objetivo de fomentar el conocimiento de este modelo en la educación.

The zebrafsh (Danio rerio) is a vertebrate belonging to the Cyprinidae family native to India, Bangladesh, Nepal and northern Myanmar. Its biological characteristics have led to its use as an animal model in biomedical sciences since the 90s’. The zebrafsh, which is currently spreading as a tool in education, has a specialized scientifc journal: “Zebrafsh”, which has been published since 2004. The incorporation and dissemination of zebrafsh in education is likely to have a benefcial effect because of the advantages of this animal model. This work presents some important milestones in order to promote the knowledge of this model in education.
