Abstract

Abstract: Objective: To examine the relationship of family caregiver´s feeling of burden with: the presence of neuropsychiatric symptoms in the patient, caregiver´s general mood and perceived quality of life. Method: Cross-sectional research performed on 32 urban Argentinian caregivers. They answered the Zarit Burden Interview (ZBI), the Beck Depression Inventory, the Neuropsychiatric Inventory Questionnaire (NPI-Q), and the World Health Organization Quality of Life Assessment (WHOQOL.) Results: As psychiatric symptoms on the patient increase, a decrease can be observed on the quality of life of the family caregiver. As depression on the patient deepens, the caregiver experiences a greater burden. Discussion: Supplemental information on the need to include the assessment of the psycosocial condition of family caregivers of patients who had suffered strokes is added with the sole intention of preserving their health
