Prosopis abbreviata (Mimosaceae) y su presunto origen híbrido

Abstract

En el género Prosopis la aparición de formas intermedias originadas por hibridación natural entre poblaciones de especies que crecen en simpatría, ha generado confusión cuando se intentaba asignar un espécimen a taxones conocidos. En consecuencia, a los individuos con características intermedias se les asigno rango taxonómico de especie. Prosopis abbreviata Benth constituiría uno de estos ejemplos. En este aporte se presentan los resultados de estudios morfológicos y palinológicos que permiten afirmar que es un híbrido parcialmente estéril entre P. torcuata y P. strombulifera.
