Abstract

Andropogon L. Plantas perennes, cespitosas o con rizomas determinados; hojas nunca aromáticas; lígulas membranáceas o membranáceo-ciliadas; láminas generalmente planas, raro plegadas o cilíndricas, ápice acuminado, agudo u obtuso. Inflorescencias típicamente en racimos de a pares, a veces digitados o raro simples, terminales o axilares, a veces numerosos formando una pseudopanoja. Espiguillas de a pares, dimorfas, lanceoladas. Espiguillas sésiles comprimidas dorsal- y/o lateralmente; gluma inferior membranosa a coriácea, plano-sulcada a cóncava, 2-aquillada, quillas laterales, nervios ausentes ó 6 entre las quillas; lemma superior a menudo aristada; estambres 3, a veces reducidos a estaminodios; estigmas 2, blancos a coloreados; cariopsis castaño. Espiguillas pediceladas a menudo reducidas, neutras, cuando desarrolladas, estaminadas o perfectas.Género pantropical con ca. 120 spp. distribuidas en pastizales naturales de África y América. En Argentina habitan 9 spp. y 3 combinaciones híbridas naturales. En Córdoba crecen 2 spp. incluidas en el complejo A. selloanus, sect. Leptopogon Stapf.
